Now open at Katameya Dunes, Cairo residents has just celebrated the launch of Maré Social restaurant, a classy, stylish restaurant inspired by the Portuguese Two Starred Michelin Chef Henrique Sa Pessoa, featuring modern Portuguese food that targets affluent patrons.

Maré Social, a unique restaurant and bar, offers a culture of sharing experiences of a leading figure in the dynamic Portuguese culinary scene, Chef Henrique Sa Pessoa, the winner of Best Chef of the Year at Portugal's top culinary competition in 2005. Who has also launched six unique restaurants throughout Portugal.

His first restaurant, Alma, which serves traditional yet modern Portuguese cuisine, reflects his love of Asia and life in Lisbon, won two Michelin Stars as well as, Restaurant of the Year honors from Wine Magazine. Henrique Sa Pessoa, who was also inspired by Egypt’s beauty and sincerity, created Maré Social in Cairo. “Come experience a brand-new idea and dining experience that has never been offered in Cairo before and savor our superb cuisine and welcoming staff's services” Chef Henrique Sa Pessoa.

Following the footsteps of Chef Henrique’s concept, Chef Nelson Amorim, who started cooking at a very young age, is in charge of the Maré Social kitchen and continues Chef Henrique's vision.

Focusing on recipes that reflect his connection to his heritage, Amorim, soon discovered that he was repeatedly copying recipes, so he decided to leave his country to pursue a cooking career in Macau where he graced the kitchens of 8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo Bombana, a fine-dining den where his expertise in Italian cuisine reached a peak. “Life it’s too short to eat ordinary food, so go for extraordinary places” Nelson Amorim.

The name of the restaurant, Mare Social, perfectly conveys both the aesthetic style of the food, drinks, and services offered within, as well as the environment of Joy and Entertaining ambiance.

The experience at the restaurant takes place in four distinct areas: the small, cozy dining room in the style of a taberna with dim lighting, the distinctive porticos and tapas bar with an open kitchen are; and the fantastic outdoor terrace surrounding the venue, offering stunning views of the golf course.

Maré Social bar is a mix of classics with modern innovative adaptations, serving the best drinks in town. The terrace's atmosphere is adorned with a lot of flora, creating lively and vivid experience at dusk and night. Mare provides a selection of cocktails, a limited selection yet distinctive wine list, and a wide selection of good local beers that complement the bar offerings.

The restaurant and tapas bar, offers a specialized menu designed for sharing, featuring finely selected Portuguese and Spanish dishes, choices of delectable seafood, inventive tapas, petiscos, bar nibbles, and the perfect steak in Cairo.
